SEMH Support

Job Description
SEN Teaching Assistant (SRP Provision) - Primary School

Location: WS10
Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm
Contract: Part-time/Full-time Available

Smile Education is currently recruiting for a caring and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) in a welcoming primary school.

This role is based within the school's Sunshine Room, supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. While this provision is generally calmer than some specialist settings, the role can still be challenging and requires a patient, consistent, and nurturing approach. You will support pupils who require additional help with emotional regulation, engagement in learning, and positive behaviour. Much of the role involves calmly redirecting pupils, building positive relationships, and helping them access the curriculum in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs throughout the school day
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Using de-escalation and redirection strategies when required
  • Helping pupils engage in learning activities and classroom routines
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with children
  • Working closely with teachers and the wider SEN team
  • Creating a calm, positive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Providing occasional support during personal care situations as part of safeguarding procedures when required
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Has experience supporting children with SEN and additional needs
  • Understands SEMH and behaviour support strategies
  • Remains calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations
  • Is confident building positive relationships with pupils
  • Has Team Teach training (desirable but not essential)
  • Works well as part of a team and adapts to individual pupil needs
  • Is passionate about helping children succeed both academically and socially
What We Offer:
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant
  • Opportunities within local primary schools
  • Valuable experience within specialist SEN provisions
  • Competitive rates of pay
  • A rewarding role making a real difference to children's lives
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who enjoys supporting children with SEMH needs and is looking to work within a specialist but nurturing school environment.
